One of the ranks of a Jedi, was the Jedi Knight, wherein this was part of the Jedi Order. It followed the Padawan title, and it precedes the rank Jedi Master. In order for the Padawan to attain the rank of Jedi Knight, the person must pass what is called as Jedi Trials. Taking this into theory, a person who has the rank Padawan, would need a numerous years of vigorous training under the supervision of a Jedi Knight or even the Jedi Master, so that the rank would be attained. Before becoming a Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi trained for about twelve years under the supervision of Qui-Gon Jinn. In this maner, Anakin Skywalker also trained similarly in this span of time before he was able to attain the said rank. In the Jedi Order, the Knights were considered to be the backbone of the so-called Jedi Order since it comprised the majority, and are tasked with different missions.

The moment that the Padawan passes the Jedi Trials, a Jedi Council is going to knight him, and is going to be commissioned to become one of the Jedi Order’s active members. This means that he would be free to take part in peace-keeping, as well as in affairs that involve diplomacy as well as judiciary affairs.
